The English Electric (BAC) Lightning. The only all British built supersonic jet fighter/interceptor, which served with the Royal Air Force, The Royal Saudi Air Force and the Kuwait Air Force. The Lightning retired from active service in 1988 after 28 years on the front line, 5 &11sqd the last units to use the Lightning then replaced the aircraft with the Panavia Tornado F3. The Lightning's last base RAF Binbrook was then shut down as an active squadron airfield. The Lightning lives on flying in Cape Town, South Africa
